Paul VK3YGO delivered the first part of a two-part presentation on Amateur Radio Satellites at the end of our 2024 syllabus.
Club members were given a review of the history of amateur satellites which have been orbiting Earth since 1961.
The detailed presentation also included:
- the range of AMSAT satellites from 1962 to 2014
- the types of amateur satellites
- operation of FM transponders (cross band repeaters)
- the nature of satellite orbits
- how to identify and locate available satellites
- use of satellite tracking software
- equipment and systems to communicate with a satellite
- currently active satellites
- how to make a satellite QSO.
We look forward to the second part of the presentation during 2025.
